In light of recent events, I feel it is important to highlight some amazing eyewear brands that are also black-owned. It is important that we continue to support black businesses, now more than ever. So, here are seven black owned eyewear brands that you need to know about.

Bohten
I am lucky enough to have worked with Bohten on numerous occasions. The Canadian based brand has its roots in Ghana. Founded by Nana Osei Boateng, they boast high quality, stylish eyewear and put sustainability at the fore.
Coco and Breezy
Founded in 2009 by twin sisters Corianna and Brianna Dotson, this brand began with the pair customising existing frames. This creativity has allowed them to launch their own brand and feature in some of the biggest publications.
Ember Niche
At Ember Niche, they believe ‘your face is your brand’. Based in New York, they offer both opticals and sunglasses in a range of styles. This brand ranges from ‘classic’ to ‘retro’ to ‘not for the faint hearted’. It takes a true fashionista to pull off their ‘Spookz’ range.
Jembere Eyewear
New York meets Ethiopia with Jembere. The brand is influenced by Ethiopian culture and Jembere means ‘my sunset’. Founded in 2013, their styles are both wearable and contemporary. Each frame is handcrafted and made with high quality materials.

Nroda
Formerly Tnemnroda, Nroda has since rebranded. The New York based eyewear brand is inspired by global cultures and this is reflected in the various styles offered. With several frame styles to choose from, Nroda has been worn by many including the likes of Rick Ross, Keke Palmer and Snoop Dogg.
SWAV Eyewear
SWAV prides itself on being a motivational eyewear brand concerned with allowing people to realise their vision.
